What’s the Best Age for a Mommy Makeover?
There’s no magic number. Dr. Nidia De Jesus performs mommy makeovers on patients from their late 20s to their 60s — and age alone is never the deciding factor. What matters is your health, your goals, and your timing.
Age Is Less Important Than These Factors
1. Are You Done Having Children?
This is the #1 factor — more important than age. A tummy tuck repairs separated abdominal muscles and removes excess skin. Pregnancy will stretch those muscles apart again and re-stretch the skin, potentially undoing your results. If there’s any chance you’ll have another baby, wait.
2. Are You at a Stable Weight?
Ideally, you should be within 10–15 lbs of your goal weight and have maintained that weight for at least 6 months. Significant weight fluctuations after surgery can compromise your results.
3. Are You in Good General Health?
A mommy makeover is a 3–5 hour surgery under general anesthesia. You need to be healthy enough for this. Key requirements:
- Non-smoker (or quit 4–6 weeks before surgery)
- No uncontrolled diabetes, heart disease, or blood clotting disorders
- BMI within a safe range (Dr. De Jesus evaluates individually)
- No active infections
4. Have You Stopped Breastfeeding?
Wait at least 3 months after stopping breastfeeding. This allows your breasts to settle into their final post-breastfeeding size and shape. See our full guide on breastfeeding and mommy makeovers.
Mommy Makeover by Age Group
Late 20s to Early 30s
Often the best combination of rapid healing and being done with pregnancies. Skin elasticity is typically excellent, which means better results and less visible scarring.
Mid 30s to 40s
The most common age range for mommy makeovers. Most women have completed their families and had time to try getting their body back through diet and exercise. Results are excellent — skin still has good elasticity in most patients.
50s and Beyond
Absolutely possible with good health. Recovery may take slightly longer, and skin elasticity is reduced, but Dr. De Jesus adjusts her surgical approach accordingly. Many patients in this age group wish they hadn’t waited so long.
When to Wait
- You’re still considering more children
- You’re actively losing weight (wait until stable)
- You’re currently breastfeeding
- You have untreated health conditions
- You smoke and aren’t willing to quit
The Real Answer
The best age for a mommy makeover is when you’re done having children, at a stable weight, and in good health. Whether that’s 28 or 58, Dr. De Jesus can help you achieve your goals.

Frequently Asked Questions
Am I too old for a mommy makeover?
Age alone doesn’t disqualify you. Dr. De Jesus evaluates each patient individually based on health, skin quality, and goals. Patients in their 50s and 60s routinely have excellent results.
Am I too young for a mommy makeover?
If you’re done having children and meet the health requirements, there’s no “too young.” The advantage of having it earlier is faster healing and better skin elasticity.
